Cerro Coso Community College is offering a number of continuing education classes this fall. These classes don’t award college credit and are available to anyone interested in professional development, skills improvement, cultural enrichment, or recreational enjoyment. Courses are designed to meet the needs of people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests.
Bruce Brady is instructing Community Orchestra on Monday evenings from 5 to 9 p.m. for those 18 years old and up. The class begins August 31 and will continue to take enrollments Designed to be a performance class for the community, participants will learn how to perform the music assigned as an ensemble, as a gift to the community, and to further the music arts locally. A variety of musical styles will be covered including: classical, semi-classical, stage and movies, popular, big band/jazz, and music from around the world. The class will perform a concert at the end of the semester and there is a class fee of $50 to participate.
The College is offering two Aerobics classes with instructor Jean Pack. Aerobic Dance will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. For a fee of $46 this fitness class is designed for adults to strengthen the heart muscles through cardiovascular exercise. In addition, muscular strength, stretching, and endurance will be addressed through body weight exercises as well as use of aerobic steps. Participants will learn the importance of and difference in aerobic training and anaerobic training. Pack will also instruct Aerobics for Older Adults on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:45 to 10:45. A low impact class for older adults, participants will learn the importance of daily stretching, deep breathing, and why daily exercise is essential. There is a class fee of $46.
Driver’s Education will meet Wednesdays and Thursdays, September 30 through October 29 with instructor James Thompson. Participants must be at least 15 years old to enroll in the course and parental consent is required for any student under the age of 18. The Driver’s Education class will present a practical and realistic guide to the fundamentals of driving and the rules of the road. For a fee of $50 this course will take students step-by-step through the basics of vehicle ownership. Students will learn to be safe and confident drivers. This class does not offer behind the wheel instruction, but it does meet the requirements of the California Department of Motor Vehicles for the DMV Provisional Permit and License.
