College Honor Society to Host Movie and Discussion

The Cerro Coso Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a screening of the movie He Named Me Malala followed by a discussion on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. in the College Learning Resource Center Room 604.

The film is an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then 15 year old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and is now a leading campaigner for girls’ education globally as co-founder of the Malala Fund.

The Beta Kappa Chi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Cerro Coso promotes scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified student at the college.

The community is invited to attend the screening and discussion. Admission is FREE and light snacks will be served.
