The Cerro Coso Community College Honors Program celebrated its 2017 graduates: Kayla Voigt, Kirstie Wittendorfer, Natalie Boggs, Jenna Daugherty, Angelica Gabaldon, Kelsey Hire, Brian McKnight, Alejandro Tellez-Cruz, and Theodore Valdez at a luncheon held in the college gymnasium on Saturday, May 6th.
The graduates, their families, Cerro Coso faculty, and fellow Honors Program students attended to recognize the outstanding achievement of these students.
Two $500 Faculty Honors Scholarships were awarded to Enrique Carrillo-Sulub and Kayla Voigt, and a $1,000 President’s Scholarship went to graduating high school student Elinelle Lee for her exceptional academic performance.
Designed for students who are academically talented and motivated and searching for experiences to fulfil their educational ambitions, Cerro Coso’s Honors Program offers enriched experiences and challenges that promise to fulfill their goals.
To be certified as an Honors Program transfer student or graduate, a student must complete a total of 16 or more units of Honors credit, either through courses, contracts, or a combination, have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 in transfer-level courses, meet the Cerro Coso graduation requirements or the transfer requirements to a four-year college, and apply for graduation from the program.
Following a presentation of honors cords and tassels to be worn during graduation on May 12, Professor Cliff Davis closed the event. “Students in the Honors Program routinely produce some of the highest quality scholarship at Cerro Coso; work that is expected of the best graduate students. Every year these students raise the bar even higher. Congratulations.”
President Jill Board added, “the quality of their projects reflects well on the individual students, their respective mentors, and the overall educational experience offered by Cerro Coso Community College.”
