Dennis Jensen has retired after almost 8 years as a full-time biology professor at Cerro Coso Community College’s Eastern Sierra College Center.

No stranger to education or community college, Jensen previously taught at San Diego Community College and spent more than 20 years at Cerro Coso’s Bishop and Mammoth campuses as an adjunct professor before moving into a full-time position in 2009. His student’s praise his positive attitude and passion for his teaching and say he makes daunting subject matters, like human physiology, not only bearable, but enjoyable. Jensen’s dedication to his students is undeniable and his willingness to share his knowledge is extraordinary. His students say he will go to any length to help them understand the material, is patient, and always offers praise to students for answering questions, even if they are wrong.

In addition to being an experienced educator, Jensen is also an experienced scientist and worked with the California Department of Fish and Game for over a decade, actively involved in restoring the endangered Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep.

Jensen began his studies at Long Beach City College, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from San Diego State University, a Master of Arts in Biology from the University of California-Los Angeles and studied the role of lipids and lipid metabolism enzymes in human disease at the University of California-San Diego School of Medicine for nearly a decade.
